SPANZA welcomes you to its Annual Scientific Meeting which is being held for the first time in the Top End - Bite Sized Anaesthesia!
The meeting hosts a range of international and local speakers, showcasing some of the differences of delivering paediatric anaesthesia in a remote location, as well as globally important topics such as Developing World Anaesthesia and there will be sessions catering for all paediatric anaesthetists, whether you are working in a large city hospital, or a smaller regional centre.
We invite you to take the opportunity to attend the UK-based POEMS course (Positive Outcome and Experience Management Strategies) for those interested in effective management of anxiety in children peri-operatively.
This course will be held the day before the main SPANZA program, and facilitators from Great Ormond St in London will be delivering this course for the first time in Australia.

Real World Anaesthesia Course (RWAC), Darwin 17-21 September 2018
This is the 27th Australian course and the sixth to be held in Darwin.
The aim of RWAC is to prepare anaesthetists for work in low and middle income countries (the real worlds) in a variety of humanitarian aid situations.
The course consists of a series of interactive lectures, case based discussions, hands on practical equipment sessions and in-theatre teaching of drawover anaesthesia.
The number of participants is limited to 18 to maximise interaction and hands-on learning.
The course has regularly been oversubscribed in the past, so to be fair, places are allocated on a first in first on basis.

Newcastle Anaesthesia Conference (NAC) - Newcastle, 28-29 September 2018

Anesthesia for Global Outreach Course, Boston Children's Hospital, United States 26-28 Oct 2018
The Anesthesia for Global Outreach Course is designed to assist anesthesia providers traveling to developing countries or austere environments for service or capacity development in anesthesia and critical care. It is intended primarily for anesthesia care providers, but is also relevant for all involved in peri-operative medicine and critical care. Course participants will have the opportunity to consider intellectual, technical, psychological, and ethical aspects of outreach anesthesia work in conditions that they are unlikely to have encountered in their training or daily practice.
This three-day course includes personal insights from faculty experienced in these environments, as well as current topics in global health related issues. Practical sessions include equipment use and maintenance, hands on simulation, and use of unfamiliar anesthesia techniques.
Participants will have ample opportunities to engage with expert instructors who are experienced in working in a broad variety of contexts. Participants will also attend sessions on tropical disease, cross-cultural adaptation, and travel preparation. In addition the program will enable anesthesia providers to better transfer their knowledge and build capacity when working in the low resource setting.

This is the first time for the Chinese Society of Anesthesiology (CSA) to hold the AACA, with the extensive preparation and delicate organization, I am sure it will be an unforgettable congress filled with most updated academic process, and opportunities for substantial communications.
The theme of this congress is 'From Anesthesiology to Perioperative Medicine', a comprehensive and clinically relevant program that will update you on the latest standards and innovations in anesthesia, pain management and perioperative medicine. AARS is a regional section of WFSA, which endeavors to establish closer relationships among member societies of Anaesthesiologists in Asian and Australasian Region. AACA is held every four years as a regional congress of World Congress of Anaesthesiologists. A number of internationally renowned speakers are invited to the congress. It should not only be a great platform for participants and experts to exchange knowledge and experience, but also gain friendship. Beijing is a National Famous Historical and Cultural City with thousands of years of history. It has been the capital for five different dynasties in Chinese history.
