In recognition of the life of Sir Robert, inventor of the laryngoscope and a former pupil at Waitaki Boys' High School, the Society recently reinstituted its sponsorship for a cash prize and silver cup, the Sir Robert Macintosh Prize Cup, to be awarded to a Year 13 student at Waitaki Boys' for success in Mathematics with Calculus in 2010. The 2010 recipient will be announced shortly.

Dr C. Mack. Holmes, a relative of Sir Robert and Life Member of NZSA, wrote an article about Sir Robert's life which was published in the May edition of the Society's newsletter, New Zealand Anaesthesia.
